PROJECT ID : PROJECT ID: IA 2017 C 040 G
Project Details

Qatar has committed to significant expansion in support of its Qatar National Vision 2030, which is currently being stimulated by the preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament and also the seventeenth edition of the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) World Championships which are scheduled to be held in 2019 in Doha, Qatar.

To support this growth, the Authority has embarked on a major programme to expand and upgrade the roads and infrastructure networks across the State of Qatar. The Project will provide improvements to highway infrastructure along the Al Wakrah Main Road corridor between Project P011 – East Highway and South through Al Wakrah City to connect with P015 Al Wakrah bypass temporary roads.

The project comprises three smaller projects.

  • Al Wakrah Main Road Interim Scheme (P017 C1 IN) comprising cost-effective but essential improvements to the Al Wakrah Road over a distance of 4.5 kms. These works comprise the upgrade of three existing junctions by converting the existing roundabouts to signalized intersections with an increase in the number of lanes from dual two lanes to dual three lanes. Included in the works are modifications to street lighting, road barriers, signage, passive drainage by soak pits and pedestrian crossing facilities. Also included are diversions and protection to utility authority plant and replacement irrigation tanks and pumps.
  • Entrusted Works Order (EWO27) linking Project P011 – At grade Works including minor utility diversions and 1.8 kms of pavement construction with extensive Metro Interface required. The Works include site clearance, fencing and safety barriers, traffic signs and road markings, street lighting with associated ducting and cabling, telecoms ducting and cabling, surface water drainage swales, TSE, soakaways and gullies, earthworks to re-grade, pavement construction and surfacing, kerbs and footways, temporary traffic management construction, management and removal and ITS, MOI SSD ducting and chambers.
  • Junction 17/01 – Phase 2 Works (P017 C1) These works include the construction and paving of a four-arm at-grade signalized interchange, 1.9 kms of At grade paving, tunnel control building and substation, MEP fit-out to a grade separated tunnel structure constructed by others, drainage infrastructure including attenuation tank, gravity and pumped network and emergency flood area, highway services including lighting and ITS, landscaping and diversion and protection to utility authority plant. The project includes extensive interface with the Metro works.

The project main objective is to provide a high quality strategic connection between Doha and Al Wakrah. It will provide connectivity to the Al Wakrah Bypass, residential areas East and West of the main road, the transportation hub with the metro and future transportation schemes.

General objectives include expansion of network capacity, improve traffic flow, increase safety, reduce congestion, minimise travel times and minimise potential environmental impacts.

This project Al Wakrah Main Road (P017 C1-IN) was awarded to Boom Construction Company by Public Works Authority with the contract value of Six Hundred Fifty Two Million Seven Hundred Forty Two Thousand Eight Hundred Twenty Three Qatari Riyals and Eighty Seven Dirhams (652,742,823.87) with the duration of 600 days plus 400 maintenance period.
